The Romí Festival 2.0 is back, and this time they’re diving deep into the heart of flamenco with the performance “Familiengo: The Song of Romani Families.” This isn’t just a show; it’s a journey through the rich history and tradition of this incredible art form.

Romí Festival 2.0: Celebrating Flamenco Roots at Teatro Leal

On December 21st, at 8:00 PM, the Teatro Leal will come alive with the raw, untaught voice of two legendary flamenco singers, Duquende and Guadiana. Duquende, born in 1965, was discovered by flamenco legend Camarón at the age of eight, launching him into a career that has seen him tour with Paco de Lucía. His voice is a blend of the memories of Camarón and the mastery of Paco de Lucía, making him a key figure for the next generation.

Guadiana, born in 1955, grew up in a flamenco family, the nephew of celebrated musician Porrina. Together, they will bring to life the term “Familiengo,” which means “of the families” in Romani, encapsulating centuries of oral tradition and the nights spent singing around the fire. This performance is a reminder that flamenco has thrived within families for centuries and a call to return to those origins to understand the present.

So, if you’re in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, make sure to mark your calendars for this special event. It’s not just a show; it’s a chance to experience the deep-rooted traditions of flamenco and the stories they carry.
