Best MMA gym in the Prosper/Frisco area?
Fitness 5 answers • Alexis LachanceAlexis Lachance
I'm looking for a quality MMA gym in the Prosper/Frisco area. My partner and I recently moved to Prosper and I want to find a gym that's committed to teaching well and developing skilled fighters. I've been looking at Next Generation MMA in Frisco, which is about 25 minutes away, and Aguilera Martial Arts, which is only 4 minutes from me. My end goal is to be well rounded, but I want to put most of my early focus on striking if I can.

Next Gen has a solid team of fighters and coaches. Campuzano is one of the standout fighters. The gym's coaching and fighter lineup are well-rounded.

Next Gen has decent coaches for wrestling and striking, but the long drive may become a challenge if you attend the gym four or five times a week. However, if you only make it two or three times a week, the drive isn't too bad. I've never trained at Aguilera, so I can't offer any insights there. For me, the closer gym always won out because I skipped fewer days, but if you're serious about competing, the extra drive might be worth it.

If you're serious about competing in MMA, you'll want to focus on gyms that cater to serious fighters. In the Dallas area, some gyms are more geared towards fitness or grappling. Octagon MMA used to be the top gym in the area, but many of its top fighters left to form Fortis MMA, which is now the premier gym for producing UFC-level talent. While it may not be the most convenient option from Prosper, it's worth considering if you're serious about making a career out of MMA.

Fortis MMA is an excellent gym, but it's not suitable for unskilled fighters. They tend to attract professional fighters who can push amateur athletes to their limits.

It's worth considering your goals and current skill level before choosing a gym. As a hobbyist, it wouldn't be wise to get outmatched by professional fighters, just as it wouldn't be worth wasting time and money at a subpar gym if you have bigger aspirations.
