Why did Memorial Drive's speed limit decrease?

Why did Memorial Drive's speed limit decrease?
Transporte 3 answers • Theo Tremblay
I've been driving on Memorial Drive and noticed that the speed limits have decreased, especially going west after Deerfoot. I'm curious to know why this section of road got slower. The speed limits are now 70km/h in some areas and 50km/h in others, which seems unusual.

Drivers tend to speed through this section, either going 110 or 60 km/h. It's a chaotic and unpredictable situation.

The speed limit change makes sense, given the previous speed limit of 80 km/h and the lane that ends shortly after turning right from 5 Avenue. Some drivers may slow down to 30 km/h to merge, while others may speed up to 100 km/h after being stuck in downtown traffic.

The constant lane changes in this area are a major contributor to congestion. Drivers in the right lane are trying to merge into the left lane, while drivers in the left lane are trying to merge into the right lane, often at the very last second.
