Thai Airways won't accept US or Canadian credit cards now?
Transporte 5 answers • bangkoknico
I've been trying to book a Thai Airways flight from BKK to Athens with my Chase Visa card, but it keeps getting rejected. I've called Chase and they say it's not their end, but Thai Airways says it's due to increased fraud from US and Canadian credit cards. Has anyone else run into this issue recently?

I encountered an issue with my Canadian credit card earlier this year when trying to purchase a ticket from a local travel agency. To resolve the problem, I booked the ticket through Expedia, which offered a similar price.

The issue isn't related to the country of origin, but rather the fact that many US banks and a few Canadian banks don't enforce two-factor authentication. As a result, some airlines may reject cards that don't support this feature.

I attempted to book a flight in April 2025, but my card was rejected. Frustrated with the airline's policy, I decided to use a different airline instead of dealing with the inconvenience.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union offers two-factor authentication in a way that's compatible with Thai systems and doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. Capital One Venture X is another option, although its 2FA process may be more complex and not work with Thai systems. It's best to avoid using Chase and Citibank for this purpose.

I recently booked a Thai flight directly through the airline's website using my Capital One MasterCard without any issues.
