Bali’s Electric Bus Fleet Makes a Noisy Entrance
Denpasar, Bali, In a move to cut down on emissions and give public transport a sustainable upgrade, Bali has welcomed 11 new electric buses from South Korea. This is not just a flashy addition to the island’s transportation scene; it’s a step towards a greener future for expats and digital nomads like me, running a coworking space in Seminyak.

The handover ceremony, held on October 22, marks the beginning of a trial run for the Hyundai COUNTY EV models. While the buses are currently free for passengers through December, riders will need to tap an electronic payment card for record-keeping purposes. Once the trial phase ends, expect fares to mirror existing rates at Rp4,400 per ride. For now, the fleet will be trialed on the Corridor I route of the Trans Sarbagita public transport network, ensuring a smoother transition for locals and visitors alike.
The arrival of these electric buses is more than just a novelty. It’s a practical step towards reducing the carbon footprint of a place where environmental consciousness is increasingly important. As a business owner in Seminyak, I’m thrilled to see initiatives like this taking root, even if it means a bit of a change in how we navigate the island.
