Smart to plan this ahead. The airport is where they love to separate tourists from their money.
Best bang for your buck is the ADO bus. $260 pesos ($15 USD) per person, takes about an hour, drops you right at the terminal on 5th Ave and Juárez in Playa. Buses run every 30-60 minutes from outside Terminals 2, 3, and 4. Buy your ticket at the counter inside the airport or at ado.com.mx. Only downside is waiting for the next departure.
Shared shuttles run $200-350 MXN per person. Companies like Canada Transfers and eTransfers. Book online before you fly. They'll be holding a sign with your name at arrivals. They might make a couple hotel stops along the way.
Private transfer is what I use now: $800-1200 MXN for the whole vehicle, not per person. If there's two or more of you, it's actually close to the same price as the bus per person and way more convenient. Book through your hotel or Airbnb host, or a service like PlayaShuttle.
Official airport taxis are $1,200-1,500 MXN. They have fixed rates posted. It's fine but you're overpaying compared to the other options.
Now here's the important part. When you walk through the terminal, people in polo shirts will approach you offering rides, info, help with your bags. Most of these are timeshare sales reps. They'll offer you a "free ride to your hotel" that comes with a mandatory 90-minute sales pitch at a resort. Don't be a sucker, just say no thanks and keep walking to the ADO counter or look for your shuttle driver.
Uber and DiDi technically work at the airport but the taxi union gives those drivers a hard time. Not worth the hassle.
Solo with a carry-on? ADO bus, save your money. Arriving late with luggage? Private transfer, don't overthink it.
