Why is there a hole in the Van Buren sidewalk?

Why is there a hole in the Van Buren sidewalk?

I own a bike rental in Phoenix and I'm worried about the safety of my customers and the general public. The city closed the Northside sidewalk between 5th Ave and 7th Ave on Van Buren St, but left a huge hole in the middle of the only Southside sidewalk. It's unavoidable that people will get hurt or their bikes will get damaged if they try to navigate this situation. I've already had a bike tire popped.

The city's response to the missing lid might be more effective if we report the issue directly to them rather than posting about it.

A stolen valve/junction box cover is a common occurrence, and it's not surprising that the city might not be aware of it immediately.

The cover appears to have been missing for a while, and given that the city uses contractors for most repairs, it's possible that the issue slipped through the cracks.

To get in touch with the neighborhood services representative, we can submit a formal complaint, which will likely involve filling out a form at the city's main office on 1st Street.

It's worth noting that the cover can often be lifted by hand, so it's possible that the thief simply removed it without causing any damage.
