Sarong or no sarong in temples?

Sarong or no sarong in temples?

I'm planning a trip to Ubud with my family and we're all interested in visiting some of the local temples. I've read that we should dress modestly, but I'm not sure if that means we need to wear a sarong or not. Can anyone provide some guidance on what to expect?

The Ubud palace and its surrounding temples are actually located in front of the Ubud art market. To enter these temples, you'll need to wear a sash around your waist, even if you're wearing pants or a long skirt. It's a good idea to ask a local for guidance before stepping in, as they can help you prepare and avoid any cultural misunderstandings.

Visitors often assume they know what's acceptable, but the reality is that Balinese temples have specific dress codes. To show respect, you can purchase ceremonial clothes for around $20 USD. This thoughtful gesture can go a long way in earning the appreciation of the local community. In fact, I've experienced firsthand the gratitude of Balinese women who appreciate visitors who dress modestly.
