Metro Line 12 Shutdown: What Expats and Digital Nomads Need to Know

As an American expat living in Roma Norte for the past four years, I've come to rely on the Metro as a primary mode of transportation. Recently, officials announced the closure of 9 stations on Line 12 starting from January 15th, 2024. Here’s what expats and digital nomads like myself need to know about this change.

What Stations Are Closing?

The affected stations are:

• Tepito
• La Noria
• Alvaro Obregón
• Salvador Allende

• Benito Juárez Terminal

How Will Service Be Impacted?

During the closure, a new shuttle service called RTP (Rápido Transbordo Preventivo) will operate between the remaining stations. However, it's important to note that this service may not fully replace the convenience of the closed sections. Here are some things to consider:

• Increased Travel Time: The RTP service will add extra time to your commute, especially during peak hours.
• Additional Stops: RTP will make multiple stops, which could slow down your journey.
• Planning Ahead: Allow extra time for your trips, especially if you need to change lines or transfer to other modes of transportation.
