Are the massage parlors popular with locals, or are they mainly for tourists?

I'm a physiotherapist in Bangkok and I'm curious to know if locals also frequent the massage parlors or if they're mainly catering to tourists. I've noticed that some of my patients who are expats have been going to these places regularly.
