Where can I find local art in Austin?

I'm visiting Austin for the next weekend and I'm looking for a known spot to find local artists, maybe even students. I found Blue Genies Bazaar in some suggestions, but it says it's closed on Google Maps. Is it?

I've found that Art for the People has a great selection of local art. It's a non-profit organization that showcases the work of local artists, and it's a great place to find unique pieces. They have a few locations in Austin, but I think the one on South Congress is the most popular. You can also check out their website to see what's available before you go.

This weekend, East Austin will host a fall art market on Sunday the 18th at Paper + Craft Pantry. In addition to the market, Paper + Craft Pantry is a charming stationery store offering a variety of products. Another art store worth visiting is Jerry's Artarama, which features a section showcasing the artwork of its staff members. Furthermore, I recall that Paper Work on South Congress is home to a large collection of art from local artists who participate in the Blue Genie event.

If you're ever here the first weekend of the month, check out Open Canopy. They have a complex of artist studios and it's their monthly open house. However, I just found out that the actual location for the sale isn't at Canopy, it's actually at a location on the same street.
