I'm an Argentine student living in Santurce, trying to save money for an emergency fund. I have over $1,000 saved up and I'm looking for a secure bank to deposit it and earn interest. I'm new to the area and not sure which bank is best for this purpose.

Honestly, $1,000 isn't a lot. Put it in a cooperative or any bank you prefer and leave it alone. Use it as your emergency fund for unexpected expenses. As for interest rates, $1,000 won't leave you with much to worry about. Focus on which bank makes it most convenient to use that money when you need it.

Ally Bank is a good option to start with and they currently offer a 3% APY.

I've been using Ally here for years. It's 100% virtual, with no fees. It works wonderfully. Highly recommended.

Having a savings account from any bank or cooperative can help with occasional problems. $1,000 is more than what most people have. Now you should focus on saving 6 months of recurring expenses in a High Yield Saving Account, which should be in a cooperative or a service like Fidelity or Robin Hood.

Put your money in a High Yield Savings account. Avoid wasting your time with local banks. Options include: Capital One 360 Savings, American Express High Yield Savings Account, and Ally Bank Savings Account. All of these options pay more than 3%. Local banks will give you less than 1%. It's essential to create the habit of putting your money in a savings account and having a fund for emergencies or unexpected expenses.

Other banks and investment options include SoFi, E*trade, and Wealthfront. If you want to use a mobile app with that account, you'll do better with a cooperative than a bank.

- use it as an emergency fund, put it in a high yield savings account. Options: Marcus, Capital One, PenFed. Do your research. - get a credit card if you don't have one, preferably with cashback, although you may need good credit for this. Use it for necessary things and pay it off fully each month, or don't use it at all, as interest rates will catch up to you. - if you want to invest, I recommend Robinhood since you have little money. Robinhood is commission-free and lets you buy fractional shares, so you can invest with little money. Invest in an ETF that tracks one of the indexes, like 'VOO' which tracks the S
