...KO Politician Suggests Poles Drink Tap Water in Response to Deposit-Return System Criticism...
Poles have been critical of the deposit-return system in Warsaw, with only 12% of respondents supporting the system and nearly 21% favoring its scrapping. Civic Coalition (KO) MEP Michał Szczerba responded to this criticism by suggesting that Poles should drink tap water. Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska from the Climate and Environment Ministry has declared that the deposit-return system will be expanded.
Critics argue that the system is shifting the burden of handling packaging returns onto Poles, with 3. 3 billion packages not being returned. KO's response to these criticisms suggests that the government should improve the system, rather than abandoning it altogether.
Meanwhile, another political figure, Patryk Jaki from Law and Justice (PiS), criticized the government's celebration of the first year of the deposit-return system, stating that Poles are being turned into garbage collectors. Jaki suggested that instead of drinking tap water, Poles should drink Warsaw tap water, which he described as excellent water that can be drunk straight from the tap.
