Toronto Zoo’s Cutest New Arrival Needs Your Vote for a Name
For animal lovers and digital nomads in Toronto, the city’s beloved Toronto Zoo is once again putting the public in the spotlight-this time by inviting you to help name its newest, adorable southern hairy-nosed wombat joey. The joey, who has been dubbed #TZPouchPotato for the time being, is currently spending most of her time in her mother’s pouch. Voting is open from now until September 30, with four options to choose from: Nellie, Melba, Matilda, or Clover. The Australian Consulate in Toronto assisted the zoo in narrowing down the names, fittingly, as southern hairy-nosed wombats are native to Australia.

The joey is expected to fully emerge from her mother’s pouch later this fall as she becomes more adventurous. Visitors can catch a glimpse of her in the coming months as she ventures out to explore her surroundings. For now, you can head over to the zoo's website to cast your vote, with one entry per email address.
This isn't the first time the Toronto Zoo has garnered attention with a cute baby animal. Earlier this year, the zoo welcomed Maple, a female endangered pygmy hippo calf, who has since become a local celebrity. Following the success of Maple, the zoo is likely to continue its trend of showcasing adorable new arrivals, making it a must-visit spot for both residents and visitors alike.
