Quebec City, Canada has been crowned as the top 'fairytale city' in North America, according to Travel Off Path, a travel outlet that released its list of 10 North American cities that feel just like Europe, at a fraction of the price.

The city is praised for its authentic French culture, romantic winter atmosphere, and impressive fortified walls, earning the title of 'the only remaining fortified city north of Mexico.' Its historic charm is further enhanced by landmarks such as the Citadelle of Quebec and the Fortifications of Quebec, a network of stone ramparts, bastions, and historic gates surrounding Old Quebec's Upper Town.

The city's iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, designed by American architect Bruce in 1893 for the Canadian Pacific Railway, dominates the skyline and makes the whole city look like a postcard.

Visitors can also stay at the Château Frontenac, with rooms ranging from $455 to $4,000 for a suite, or choose from a variety of more affordable hotels, hostels, and Airbnbs.

The city is also home to the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the iconic five-star hotel that 'dominates the skyline and makes the whole city look like a postcard.'

Quebec City has also earned international recognition, being named one of the most colorful cities in the world by Iceland's JustCover and an underrated travel spot by Condé Nast Traveler.

The city is easily accessible by plane with round-trip flights from Vancouver costing around $681 and flights from Calgary averaging around $580.

For those dreaming of a trip to Paris, the historic street of Quartier Petit Champlain, known for its narrow cobblestone streets, stone buildings, and boutiques, is a perfect alternative.

The city's Quartier Petit Champlain is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods, offering visitors a taste of Europe without the need for a passport.

Travel Off Path also highlighted that Quebec City isn't the only Canadian destination to make the list; Vancouver, B.C., and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, also earned spots among the 10 North American cities with old-school European vibes.

Quebec City's charm and authenticity make it a perfect European escape for those who can't make it to Europe this winter.
