Amazon Canada Workers Get Minimal Raise Amid Rising Costs

Amazon Canada is raising the average hourly wage for its operations employees by just $1 per hour this year, to $26.27. This change takes effect on September 27, 2026, and represents a four percent increase. While the company claims this as an investment of over $78 million, the raise is minimal in the face of rising living costs.

  • The new wage means full-time employees working 40 hours a week would earn over $54,000 annually on average.
  • Eligible employees will also receive a 10% discount on online grocery and daily essentials purchases on Amazon.ca.
  • Amazon plans to provide further pay increases every six months until the 24-month anniversary, with another increase at month 36.

These changes come amid ongoing disputes with unions, particularly in British Columbia, where the company faced criticism for shutting down operations in Quebec after employees formed a union. The recent wage hike was announced alongside the end of a mediation process ordered by the B.C. Labour Relations Board.
