Officials have warned that the weekend will bring a warm and humid atmosphere, with showers and isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon. The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan has stated that a high-humidity air mass will settle over the region, accompanied by low concentrations of Sahara dust. This will partially inhibit the formation of deep rain. Meanwhile, a high-pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere will continue to increase instability, resulting in isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. The SNM anticipates that rainfall will begin later than in recent days.

According to SNM, the highest temperature expected in San Juan will be around 92 degrees Fahrenheit. While the ongoing heat wave has reached temperatures ranging from high 90s to mid-110s in coastal areas, the current heat advisory until 4 PM remains in effect. The SNM predicts that heat risks will persist over the weekend and may issue additional heat advisories.

The weekend is forecasted to see a return of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the interior and western parts of Puerto Rico, as a tropical wave raises humidity levels closer to normal for this time of year.

Meanwhile, the SNM has also highlighted the risk of flash floods and landslides in areas with saturated soil and unstable slopes. Lightning strikes and gusty winds are also expected.

Heat is expected to remain a significant threat over the weekend, with heat advisories currently in effect until 4 PM.
