New Business Changes in Santurce: What It Means for Expats and Digital Nomads

It’s been a few days since legal notices were published, marking significant changes in Santurce. As someone who’s been living here for over a decade, I wanted to share these updates with fellow expats and digital nomads like myself.

First off, two long-standing businesses on Calle Montalvo are planning to rebrand. The Corner Store, a beloved local spot, is set to transform into a café with a more modern twist. This might change the vibe for those who’ve frequented it for years, but it’s exciting to see how it evolves. On the other side, the old Tropicana Bar is being revamped into a tech hub, complete with co-working spaces and free Wi-Fi. This new space is perfect for digital nomads looking for a stable internet connection and a community to connect with.

The closure of a small but popular bakery on Calle Puerto Rico is also worth noting. It’s a bit of a bummer, but the bakery’s owner is setting up a new location downtown, which should be just as convenient for everyone.

These changes are part of the ongoing transformation of Santurce, and while they might come as a surprise, they offer new opportunities and experiences for us expats and digital nomads. Whether you’re looking for a new café to grab a coffee or a place to work, there’s plenty happening in the neighborhood.
