C3TEC Opens New Biotech Laboratory to Boost STEM Education
The Center Criollo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Caribe (C3Tec) has inaugurated a new Biotech Laboratory in Caguas, offering over 1,000 students hands-on experiences in biotechnology. This initiative, supported by the Amgen Foundation, aims to introduce young learners to practical scientific experiences and possible STEM careers.

“This new laboratory provides an extraordinary opportunity for our children and youth to have direct contact with science and discover career possibilities in fields such as biotechnology,” said Caguas Mayor and C3Tec Board President William Miranda Torres. “The C3Tec continues to generate initiatives that connect education with future industries and STEM professions.”
The C3Tec Executive Director, Tasha Endara, emphasized the importance of allowing students to experience, question, discover, and verify science firsthand. Amgen Foundation's support helps expand access to high-level scientific experiences, enabling more students to envision themselves in STEM careers.
During its inaugural period, the program is expected to impact over 1,000 students annually from at least 25 schools, with a focus on offering free educational experiences. The initiative will also welcome families and the public through a free monthly event, reaching around 300 families annually.
“As a philanthropic organization, our goal is to inspire the next generation of scientists,” stated Scott Shumway, President of the Amgen Foundation.
