Levita Magnetics Brings Cutting-Edge Surgery Tech to Miami

Laundry owner and expat Nigel D. shares insights on how Miami is set to benefit from the expansion of Levita Magnetics, a company that has pioneered magnetic-assisted surgery technology. Founded by Alberto Rodriguez-Navarro, the company's MARS platform uses a combination of magnetics and robotics to enhance surgical procedures, reducing the number of incisions needed and streamlining the process.

Levita recently opened a Miami hub in Coral Gables, aiming to serve as a base for expanding its operations across the U.S. and Latin America. The company's move into the Miami market comes after successfully performing its first surgery in Florida at HCA Florida Mercy Hospital, conducted by bariatric surgeon Nestor de la Cruz-Muñoz. According to Rodriguez-Navarro, this expansion is part of a broader strategy to grow the company's presence in key medical centers.

The MARS technology, which includes a robotic arm that holds and moves a camera inside the body, has been used in over 3,000 abdominal surgeries globally. This innovative tool not only simplifies operations but also reduces labor costs for hospitals. With plans to hire at least 15 people in the next three years, Levita aims to significantly impact the surgical landscape in Miami and beyond.
