What causes the industrial smell like fresh bread in Mexico City?

I've noticed a strong smell similar to freshly baked bread or beer in the air, especially near industrial areas, but it's not coming from a bakery or brewery. I've smelled it near the Cervecería Modelo and in other areas of Tlalnepantla. I'm curious to know what compounds might be causing this smell, aside from bread and beer.

I've heard that the smell is caused by the fermentation process of the beer, but I'm not sure if that's true. Has anyone else noticed this smell in other parts of the city?

I've smelled it near the brewery and in other industrial areas where there's no food manufacturing, which is why I'm asking. There are also volatile compounds that smell like burnt bread.

This is the result of not having the capacity for research and only wanting a quick and easy answer. The smell is likely caused by the industrial activities in the area, but I'm not sure what specific compounds are responsible.

The brewery is the key, and I know the smell you're referring to. It's likely caused by the caldo de plantas and levaduras used in the beer-making process, which is not typically toxic but can be quite pungent. However, there may be other vapors and fumes from factories that are more toxic.

Thanks for being the only person to respond decently. It makes sense near the brewery, but I'm curious why it smells like that in Tlalnepantla in the middle of the street. One hypothesis I had is that maybe there's a chemical compound (in addition to the yeast) that smells like a little bread but isn't one.
