Safest areas for street photography in Mexico City?

I've been doing urban photography in Mexico City for a while now, but I had a scary encounter with some vendors near Tlatelolco. They got upset when I took pictures of a graffiti and threatened to hit me. I know the law and was not doing anything wrong, but I still got intimidated. I'm looking for safer areas to take photos without running into trouble.

You handled it well. People like that don't have anything to lose.

Unfortunately, the city is not as safe as to take pictures anywhere. I try to stick to well-lit, touristy areas like Reforma, Chapultepec, and the Roma neighborhood. It's better to be safe than sorry.

You should have gone to the police or filed a report. By not doing anything, you're perpetuating the problem.

You probably stumbled into an area with illicit activity. Some people might have seen you as a threat or a potential witness. It's not just about taking pictures, but also about understanding the people and the environment.
