Daily public transit to downtown, which is faster?

Daily public transit to downtown, which is faster?

I'm looking for the best option for daily public transit from Mount Saint Vincent University (Bedford Highway) or Highfield Terminal Bay (Dartmouth) to downtown Halifax. I've heard that the bridge traffic is terrible, so I'm trying to avoid that if possible. I'd like to know which route is faster and if there are any other options I should consider.

MSVU - Downtown is a one-bus ride, whereas Highfield - Downtown requires a transfer, but Highfield does offer the option of taking the ferry, which might be a better choice than driving over the Bridge of Bedford Highway at times.

The Mount can get you downtown on one bus, but from Highfield, you'll need to transfer buses, and taking the ferry is usually a more reliable option.

Walking is out of the question, but the bus is slightly faster than walking. Biking is often a quicker option than driving for trips under 8km, especially since the bridge crossings are currently experiencing terrible traffic congestion, which seems to be the new normal. To avoid this, pick a route that bypasses the bridges.

Considering your commute, an e-bike or a monthly pass for a bike-sharing service like Bird might be the best option. E-bikes are often the most efficient way to get around the city, and I've found that I'm often quicker on an e-bike than in a car. If you do decide to try e-biking, Highfield is a more bike-friendly area.

At MSVU, you'll face the challenge of long bus routes that run through congested areas, making them prone to delays during rush hour. This means that you'll likely arrive late at MSVU and even later in downtown Halifax, with each successive trip compounding the delay. In contrast, Highfield offers multiple options for reaching the bridge terminal and then connecting to the ferry terminal, resulting in a more predictable schedule for downtown Halifax.

If you're planning to commute to the South end instead of downtown, I'd recommend considering Highfield as your starting point. However, I should correct my previous statement - the ferry is no longer an option for you.
