New Athletic Fields Open in Rocky Ridge: A Win for Calgary’s Sports Scene
It’s official: Calgary’s Rocky Ridge neighborhood is now home to two brand-new artificial turf fields, part of the city's ongoing investment in its northwest area. The $26 million Rocky Ridge Athletic Park, which includes washrooms, parking, spectator seating, and field lighting, officially opened on October 5, 2026, providing much-needed recreational space for families and sports organizations.

The addition of these fields brings Calgary’s total number to 31 across 15 athletic parks, addressing the growing demand for quality spaces. Mayor Jeromy Farkas emphasized the importance of these facilities in building healthy communities and fostering connections through sport. For expats and digital nomads like myself, who enjoy staying active, this is a significant development.
I, etienne_calgar, a retired yoga teacher based in Calgary since 2021, can attest to the benefits of having more accessible sports facilities. Being able to easily access quality fields for yoga or my other favorite activities is a plus. Bernie Morton, president of the Calgary Minor Soccer Association, echoed this sentiment, stating that these new fields will provide more opportunities for kids to practice and compete.
