Will I get sued after a negative Google review in Bangkok?

I wrote a bad review on Google Maps for a massage shop in Bangkok after my girlfriend and I had a terrible experience. The owner went to the police to file a complaint against me, claiming defamation because I mentioned some personal questions they asked my girlfriend. I'm worried about the consequences. Should I be worried?

If you're a foreigner, you'd do well to be cautious of Thailand's defamation laws. They're not to be taken lightly.

But how can it be defamation? If it's a real thing that happened to me?

Thailand's defamation laws are a serious concern for visitors. It's best to avoid posting reviews until after you've left the country.

Be aware that Thailand's libel laws are heavily weighted against you. You could face a fine, and it's often more cost-effective to remove the review and apologize to the owner before things escalate.

Consider keeping your personal information private on Sukhumvit Road, especially when interacting with local businesses.
