Empowering the Pink Ribbon Walk: A Lifeline for Women in Bali
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when communities worldwide come together to raise awareness and support those affected by this disease. In Ubud, the Bali Pink Ribbon foundation continues to be a beacon of hope, organizing the 'Pink Charity Fun Walk and Run' to honor this cause. Founded in 2013 by Gaye Warren, a breast cancer survivor, the foundation has grown to provide crucial support and education to thousands of women across Indonesia.

Gaye recounts the early days of Bali Pink Ribbon, inspired by her own journey through breast cancer treatments in Singapore, Jakarta, and the UK. Initially, she expected just 25 participants for the first walk in Bali but was met with a resounding 200 women eager for support. The event has since blossomed, attracting over 1000 participants each year in Sanur, with similar events taking place in various parts of Bali and beyond.
The foundation’s key programs focus on breast cancer awareness, education, and free screenings. By offering mobile ultrasound screenings and connecting women with specialists, BPR aims to make a tangible difference in early detection and treatment. Their work extends to remote areas, ensuring that even those in tea, timber, and cacao plantations have access to critical health services. The support of volunteers and community members is vital, providing a network of care and understanding that can be life-changing for many.
