Playa Conchal Earns Blue Flag for Sustainable Environmental Management
Playa Conchal recently received the Ecological Blue Flag for its outstanding environmental management and conservation efforts, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to preserving the coastal ecosystem.
The Ecological Blue Flag Program recognizes the work of public and private institutions, as well as local communities, in protecting and maintaining high standards for beaches. In the most recent evaluation, Playa Conchal excelled, receiving four white stars, one gold star, one silver star, one green star, and one orange star. These stars reflect the beach's compliance with environmental criteria and the special efforts in specific areas such as land-based pollution control, beach cleanups, and promotion of sustainable living.
Reserva Conchal, The Westin Reserva Conchal, and W Costa Rica played a crucial role in this achievement. Their initiatives include beach and river cleanups, reforestation projects, and the Ecolecta Program, which focuses on responsible waste management. These actions not only beautify the area but also educate the community and visitors about environmental conservation.
According to Gabriela Meza, the Sustainability Manager of Reserva Conchal, this recognition highlights the shared responsibility in conserving the beach. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a long-term environmental management strategy to protect the coastal ecosystem, promote education, and ensure the well-being of the environment.
