Santurce Residents Get a Special Food Aid Payment
After a unique allocation of funds that was initially reserved for emergencies in 2025, the Department of Family Affairs is now distributing a one-time special payment of $46.78 to each participant in the Programa de Asistencia Nutricional (PAN). This brings the total payment to $56,827,034, benefiting over 1.2 million individuals. The funds are being distributed from Thursday to Saturday.

Ellie McAllister, an expat resident of Santurce for four years, highlights the practical implications this has for daily life in the town. 'As a resident, I can see how this extra $46.78 could go a long way in topping up grocery budgets for families,' she notes. 'For those of us managing on tight budgets, this can be a real lifeline.' Ellie shares her insights on how to access the payment and what to expect next.
Residents can check their PAN cards for the unique transaction code required to receive the payment. If you haven’t received it by Saturday, it’s best to contact the Department of Family Affairs for assistance. Ellie advises, 'It’s a good idea to keep an eye on your card and check with the department if you’re not sure about the status of the payment.'
The payment is a one-time supplement to the $39 received earlier this week as part of another special benefit. Residents will need to manage their finances carefully to maximize the benefit. Ellie adds, 'This payment is a welcome boost, but it’s important to plan how it will be used to ensure it lasts through the holiday season.'
Moved to Santurce from Australia 4 years ago and stayed. Interested in how the town actually works.
