Arona Launches Specialized Service for Capturing Abandoned Exotic Pets
Living in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, I’ve noticed a few things that really matter to expats and digital nomads like myself: good Wi-Fi, understanding the visa process, and keeping an eye on the cost of living. But sometimes, there are local issues that can affect our daily lives, such as the recent launch by Arona of a specialized service to capture and rescue abandoned exotic animals like snakes, tarantulas, and iguanas.

The service, which has partnered with the Neotropic Foundation, is aimed at ensuring the safety of both the animals and the public. While this might seem like a small concern, it’s important to note that these animals can pose risks, especially if not handled properly. The council has urged residents not to attempt to capture these animals themselves, as doing so could be dangerous.
For those of us who may come across these animals, the best course of action is to report sightings to the appropriate services. By doing so, we can help ensure the safety of both ourselves and the animals. This initiative also includes training for local authorities and educational activities for schools to raise awareness about the dangers of introducing invasive species and the issues surrounding the abandonment of exotic pets.
