Tragedy on the 307: A Cautionary Tale for Puerto Morelos Residents
Early last week, a tragic accident occurred on Federal Highway 307 in Puerto Morelos, leaving at least one person dead and another injured. The event took place in the early hours of the morning, when a vehicle reportedly struck a horse and its rider, leading to a series of subsequent collisions.

Located just a few BTS stops from my usual snorkeling spot, this incident highlights the dangers of driving on poorly lit stretches of road. The darkness and lack of visibility played a significant role in this tragedy, as the driver could not see the horse and rider in time to avoid the collision. The vehicle then ended up overturned off the road, while the horse lay nearby, and the rider's body remained on the asphalt.
The second impact, involving a motorcyclist, occurred after the initial collision. This rider, unable to avoid the horse and the fallen rider, was the one whose life was lost. Authorities are still investigating the full sequence of events, but this accident serves as a stark reminder for all road users to remain vigilant, especially during late-night and early-morning drives.
