Puerto Morelos Steps Up to Combat Rainfall and Flooding
Puerto Morelos, Mexico With the rainy season in full swing, Puerto Morelos has intensified its efforts to address the resulting encharcamientos and ensure the safety and smooth operation of the town. Over 50 workers from the Servicios Públicos department are actively clearing drainage systems and removing debris to prevent further flooding and maintain traffic flow.

Leonel Salazar Trejo, the Secretary of Servicios Públicos, reported that operations began late Friday night and continued into the early hours of Saturday. Areas like Villas Morelos II, Avenida Timón, and sections of Zetina Gasca have seen significant attention. In addition to clearing drains, workers have been removing fallen trees and other debris that could obstruct water flow.
Notably, three areas near the port have experienced water accumulation, possibly due to mangrove obstructions. Similar issues have been observed on Avenida Niños Héroes, behind the church, where the increased mangrove levels have reduced water absorption capacity.
Residents are advised to avoid disposing of garbage during rain events to prevent blockages in drainage systems. The local authorities have set up a WhatsApp line for reports: 9983897989, and you can also join their news channel for updates.
