Blanca Merari Boosts Beach Cleaning Efforts in Puerto Morelos
Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the mayor of Puerto Morelos, has equipped beach cleanup brigades with new tools and uniforms, as reported in the local news. This move aims to enhance the effectiveness of their daily work, particularly in addressing the growing presence of microplastics.

The mayor highlighted the importance of maintaining clean and safe beaches, which are crucial to the city's identity and economy. She emphasized the early hours and tough conditions under the sun that the workers endure.
According to Emmanuel Tuz Betancourt, the director of ZOFEMAT, this is the second such equipment distribution this year. A total of 40 shovels, 25 wheelbarrows, and 25 shovels were provided, along with 45 metal and 15 plastic garden brooms, and 55 dry fit long-sleeved shirts.
These new tools will help the teams work more safely and efficiently, especially as they tackle increasing amounts of sargassum and microplastics.
