NYC Ferry Fare Increases to $5: What You Need to Know
Starting this month, the fare for NYC Ferry will increase to $5, marking the first change since July 2024. The Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced the fare hike, effective October 19, which will see the base one-way fare rise from $4.50 to $5, and the 10-trip pass from $29 to $30. The reduced one-way fare will increase to $1.50, while the two-day unlimited ticket will remain at $15.

The fare increase aims to offset inflation-related costs while supporting continued ridership growth. NYC Ferry has seen record demand, with its highest daily and weekly ridership levels this summer. NYCEDC continues to conduct regular, measured fare reviews to balance affordability, ridership growth, and financial sustainability.
Additionally, NYCEDC has expanded eligibility for discounted ferry tickets to middle school students citywide, effective October 19. Students in grades 6 through 8 will now be eligible for discounted weekday ferry trips to and from school, in addition to the existing high school student program.
For expats and digital nomads based in New York, this fare increase could impact your daily commute or leisure trips. If you use the ferry frequently, expect a small increase in your monthly expenses. However, the expanded discount for middle school students could be a benefit for those with children in the city.
