Where can I find taquerias in Mexico City with non-pork options?

I'm visiting Mexico City for a few days and I'm excited to try the famous taquerias around the city. However, after researching, it seems that most of the menu items contain pork, which I cannot eat due to religious and dietary restrictions. Can someone recommend how I would navigate this situation if I only wanted to order beef, chicken, or vegan tacos?

When dining at a taqueria in Mexico City, look for bistec or arrachera, which are both types of beef. You may also find sirloin tacos, as well as chicken options like Pollo asado. Additionally, some places may offer nopales, a type of cactus.

While many taquerias use animal products in their cooking, there is a reputable vegan option in Mexico City. Gracias Madre Taquería Vegana offers a variety of plant-based dishes that are designed to mimic traditional Mexican flavors.

Even if you're looking for halal or kosher options, it can be difficult to find truly compliant food at street vendors. Many vendors use pork lard or tallow to cook their nopales.

You'll have a wide range of options at a taqueria. Try tacos de bistec, alambre de bistec, or tacos de suadero for beef options. Lamb barbacoa is also available, and many places offer birria. If you're a vegetarian, you can ask for options and say 'no como puerco por favor' to the waiter.

To find a good taqueria, look for places that don't cook all their meats together. Some good spots include La once mil, Maizajo, La Bonvi, El Remolkito, El Califa, and Atarantados. Just be sure to mention your preferences to your server.

Most taquerias offer a variety of meats, including beef, chicken, and pork. However, some places may specialize in a specific type of meat, such as carnitas. To be safe, you can always order bistek or pollo.

It's worth noting that many taquerias use lard, which is made from pork fat, to cook their tortillas and fry their food. This can be a concern for those with dietary restrictions.
