José Luis Barrón Flores Brings Literature to Young Minds in Chetumal
Chetumal, Quintana Roo When it comes to literature, there’s a whole new generation of readers in town. Renowned author José Luis Barrón Flores recently brought his latest book, Narraciones de Arena y Pavimento, to the students of Chetumal, sparking a wave of literary curiosity among young readers.

During the event held at the Centro de Estudios de Bachillerato Técnico “Eva Sámano de López Mateos”, more than 50 students got a firsthand look at the creative process behind Barrón Flores’ work. The book, which features 20 relatable stories, was not only a delight for the students but also a valuable teaching tool for the educators.
But the excitement didn’t stop there. Barrón Flores and his collaborator, photographer Sol Mancera, shared their insights into the writing process. They even read aloud two of the stories, giving the students a unique opportunity to engage directly with the author. This interaction encouraged students to think critically about literature and sparked a conversation about the importance of storytelling in our everyday lives.
The best part? Barrón Flores personally autographed 50 copies of the book and donated them to the students. These books will now be part of the school library, ensuring that the stories of Quintana Roo continue to inspire and educate future generations.
For digital nomads and expats living in or visiting Cancún, this event is a reminder of the rich cultural landscape that surrounds you. Encouraging literature among the younger generation not only preserves our heritage but also enriches the community with a deeper appreciation for the arts.
