Direct Flights to Tulum: A Game-Changer for Winter Travelers
As a Mexican-American nurse who moved back to Cancún to be closer to family, I can attest to the struggles of the long transit days from Cancún International Airport to Tulum. The hassle of battling through crowds and enduring the two-hour drive down Highway 307 is a memory I'm eager to leave behind. With the addition of more direct flights to Tulum International Airport, that may finally be possible.

The New Canadian Influx
The region is gearing up for a busy 2026-2027 winter travel corridor, and Tulum International Airport is leading the charge with brand-new and expanding non-stop international routes. Major carriers like Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet, and United Airlines are significantly boosting their seasonal flight frequencies, making it easier for travelers to bypass Cancún and land right at Tulum's doorstep.
- Montreal: Air Canada will launch non-stop service starting October 29, operating once a week on Thursdays through April 8, with Air Transat running weekly Sunday departures from October 25 to April 18.
- Toronto: Air Canada will run a direct Sunday service starting October 25 through April 11, while WestJet will operate twice-weekly non-stop flights on Thursdays and Saturdays from October 31 through April 24.
- Calgary: WestJet will launch direct flights from Calgary starting October 29, running twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the winter season.
- Quebec City: Air Transat is introducing direct non-stop service from Quebec City, operating once weekly on Sundays starting October 25.
United Connects the New York Metro Area
United Airlines is offering non-stop service connecting Newark Liberty International Airport directly to Tulum. Operating between December 17 and January 24, the route will run twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, perfect for holiday getaways.
According to Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, expanding this international flight network is part of a broader federal strategy to make the destination more accessible and spread economic prosperity.
