Cancún Launches Free Spay and Neuter Campaign in Tierra Maya Neighborhood
On October 11, 2026, the Ayuntamiento de Benito Juárez in Cancún conducted a free spay and neuter campaign for 150 dogs and cats in the Tierra Maya neighborhood. The initiative, part of the 'Zero Overpopulation Animal Root' event, was organized by the Instituto Municipal para la Protección y Bienestar Animal to address the city's overpopulation issue.

The campaign, which began at 9:00 AM and ended at 13:00 PM on October 11th, took place at the Ángela Peralta de Castera Primary School. Attendees registered their pets' information beforehand and were scheduled in three-hour intervals.
Additionally, the city announced three more free spay and neuter events for October, including one scheduled for October 17th in Villas Otoch Paraíso, another for October 24th in Villas del Mar 3, and a final one for October 31st at the Diego Rivera Primary School.
Residents of Cancún, many of whom have lived here for years, are particularly interested in this initiative as it not only helps manage the city's growing pet population but also provides a practical service that aligns with their lifestyle and needs.
