Cancún Activates 30 Brigades to Combat Rainfall Impacts
As heavy rains continue to pummel Cancún, the city's municipal government has taken action by deploying 30 brigades to address the resulting water accumulations and maintain traffic flow. This move comes amidst an ongoing weather forecast predicting more rainfall for the upcoming days.

President Municipal Ana Paty Peralta directed the General Services Department to intensify cleaning and drainage clearance efforts, prioritizing areas most affected by the rain. The 30 brigades consist of 195 workers and 25 vehicles, including specialized machinery like a Vactor and a perforator. During the day, these teams attended to about 92 water pools, cleaned 705 grates and sewers, and worked on 23 rainwater collectors, among other tasks.
These efforts aim to clear 52 roadways, easing vehicular traffic and reducing disruptions caused by the rain. The brigades have also been working in key avenues such as Nader, Yaxchilán, Xcaret, Cobá, Palenque, Bonampak, Andrés Quintana Roo, Leona Vicario, Lak’in, 135, Las Torres, Chac Mool, and Niños Héroes.
The government has set up a 24/7 reporting channel through ChatCun, available via WhatsApp at 998 778 4500. They also advise residents to stay alert for emergency announcements from the Civil Protection department and to follow traffic advisories.
For expats and digital nomads like myself, it's essential to stay informed about these updates. By reporting issues promptly and following these guidelines, we can help ensure the safety and smooth operation of our daily routines in Cancún.
