Wordfest’s Imaginairium Returns: A Literary Feast for All Ages
After a hiatus, Wordfest’s Imaginairium festival is back and bigger than ever, bringing a diverse array of literary experiences to Calgary from October 13 to 18. As a retiree with eight years in Calgary, I found myself drawn to this event, which promises a blend of storytelling, community, and creativity that goes beyond the usual festival experience.

CEO Shelley Youngblut highlights the event's wide appeal, noting that it caters to a mix of young and old Calgarians, offering something for everyone. With 60 writers and 41 shows already sold out, it's clear that this festival is not to be missed. Whether you're into nonfiction, horror, comedy, or romance, there's a performance to engage your imagination and sense of community.
Youngblut emphasizes the festival's commitment to showcasing Canadian voices, with 90% of the authors being from Canada. This is more than a mere nod to local talent; it's a celebration of the rich storytelling traditions that define the Canadian experience.
For attendees, the festival offers more than just performances. Beverages and merchandise will be available, and tickets and festival passes can be purchased online. With so much to offer, it's a perfect opportunity to explore the diverse literary scene in Calgary.
