Will I get in trouble for bringing a drone to Siem Reap airport?

I'm planning a trip to Cambodia and I want to bring a small consumer drone with me for recreational use. I know the rules and bans around the archaeological park are incredibly strict, but I'm only planning to use it on the islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem. Has anyone recently flown into Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) with a drone in their luggage?

Entering Cambodia with a drone is likely to go unnoticed, but it's a good idea to steer clear of military bases on the islands. Military bases are often located near prominent landmarks, such as lighthouses, and the surrounding areas are usually subject to drone bans.

Koh Rong Sanloem has a drone ban in place, particularly in the southern region near the lighthouse. While resorts may not actively enforce this ban, it's essential to maintain a positive relationship with local authorities who have the power to confiscate your drone.

The drone ban is in place, but enforcement varies in reality. To avoid any issues, consider contacting local authorities directly to clarify their stance on drone usage. It's unlikely that a local police officer will be equipped with a MANPAD or a gun to shoot down your drone.

My main concern is not the drone being shot down, but rather it being confiscated at the airport during arrival or departure. This could result in significant delays and potential fines, so it's essential to be aware of local regulations and take necessary precautions.
