I've noticed that in our families, we often talk about working hard, buying a house, and helping our parents, but we rarely discuss what would happen financially if one of us were to pass away. I'm curious to know how you all approach this topic.

I have life insurance that my employer provides, which covers a year of my salary. Since I don't have kids, I don't see the need to invest in additional life insurance yet. However, when I do have kids, I'll definitely get more coverage so that my wife and children are taken care of in case something happens to me.

Family planning can indeed be a significant factor in deciding to purchase life insurance. Personal experiences and discussions at home can greatly influence one's perception of financial planning. Growing up, I saw firsthand how financial decisions can impact loved ones, which has motivated me to prioritize my own financial security.

In Puerto Rico, financial planning isn't a top priority for many individuals. They often rely on their monthly salaries and struggle to save. Life insurance is frequently viewed as a luxury, only accessible to the affluent. However, my husband and I have discovered that investing in life insurance is relatively affordable, with our policies costing approximately $20 per month each. If we were to pass away, the payout would be $300,000.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your mom at such a young age. You're right, many families are just trying to make ends meet, so planning for the future isn't always a priority.

Most people don't have enough money to pay for basic expenses like groceries, water, and electricity, let alone life insurance.

You're right, when people are struggling to pay for basic necessities, life insurance is the last thing on their minds. That's why I wanted to start this conversation, because we often talk about preparing for the future, but many people are just trying to survive in the present.

That's usually the response when we bring up the topic.
