Private Springs in College Park - What's the Deal?

I've always been curious about the Mystery Sink/Emerald Springs in College Park, which is now on private property. I've heard it's about 300-500 feet deep and has a dark history, including two reported fatalities. I'd love to know more about its history and what's going on with it now.

I've heard that the spring is actually much deeper than 300 feet, possibly even closer to 500 feet. And unfortunately, it's had a tragic history, with two reported fatalities.

To be honest, I've read a bit about this spring, but I've forgotten most of the details. You might be able to find more information in some local history Facebook groups.

It's actually quite concerning that private property owners can lock off access to natural springs like this. It's not just about the spring itself, but also about the potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

I feel the same way about The Springs in Longwood, which is gated and only accessible to residents.

Unfortunately, the property fell into disrepair.

I used to live near this spring, and I can tell you that the owners were always dealing with kids trying to sneak onto their property. They even had peacocks to alert them when someone was approaching.
