Autism support groups in Phoenix for kids?
Altro 5 answers • Danielle
I'm a homeschooling mom in Phoenix with an autistic 3rd grader who enjoys anime, gaming, and making paper dragon puppets. We've had trouble finding autism support groups or co-ops for socialization, and I'm looking for a community where my child can connect with others who share similar interests.

You could check out Friend in me or the Grove. They might have some autism-friendly groups or events for kids. I've heard they're really supportive and welcoming.

If she's passionate about a particular activity, such as a sport, dance, or music, she'll likely form connections with others who share her interests. Many libraries host various events for children, and it's perfectly fine to observe from a distance if she needs some time to herself.

Does her therapist recommend any autism support groups or activities for kids? They might be able to pair her up with another kid with similar interests.

My ex-wife has experience with our girls who have Asperger's/high functioning ASD, but they're almost 17 now. I'll call her tomorrow and see if she has any resources or recommendations for you.
I called my ex-wife and she said that Meetup might be a good option for finding autism support groups for kids, as they tend to vet people before allowing physical access to group ups. She doesn't recommend Facebook, though, due to safety concerns.
