What does the West Village community need?

What does the West Village community need?

We're designing a hypothetical affordable housing complex on 388 Hudson st site, deviating from the original Herzog and de Muron “Hudson Mosaic” project. We're wondering what the community feels the area is lacking, what it needs and what community facilities or programs they would like to see on the site.

I'd like to see fewer housing units that artificially lower prices and create more demand, exacerbating the housing crisis. Instead, I'd prefer more market-rate units that actually contribute to the neighborhood.

The issue is that the majority of West Village residents are affluent and often resist affordable housing projects in the neighborhood.

West Village needs more high-rise residential buildings to address its housing needs.

One major issue with large-scale affordable housing complexes is the lack of commercial space on the ground floor. This can be seen in a single building like the Mosaic in the West Village, where there's limited reason to explore the area south of Hudson Street due to the absence of retail or services. We need more commercial space on the ground floor to create a sense of community.
