Isla Mujeres to Get New Child Support Center for 26 Minors
Good news for Isla Mujeres residents and expats! The island is set to receive a new Centro de Asistencia specifically designed to support 26 children and adolescents in the Zona Continental area. This exciting development, spearheaded by local authorities, marks a significant step towards improving the well-being of our youngest island inhabitants.

The construction and rehabilitation of the facility are part of a 6 million peso investment, with funds allocated from a national and state DIF (Fondo de Infancia y Adolescencia) partnership. The project, which is being managed by Atenea Gómez Ricalde, the current mayor of Isla Mujeres, and other key figures, aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children.
Upon completion, the Centro de Asistencia will house a variety of specialized services, including psychological support, social work, and medical care. These resources will cater primarily to children from the Zona Continental, a neighborhood known for its higher rates of child vulnerability. The center will also offer educational and recreational activities to promote holistic development.
