Toys 'R' Us Returns to Calgary, But in a Whole New Way

After years of financial troubles and closures, the iconic toy retailer Toys 'R' Us is making a comeback in Canada, but this time with a twist. Gone are the standalone stores; instead, you'll find dedicated Toys 'R' Us areas within Staples stores across the country, starting with a pilot location in Richmond Hill, Ont., on November 14. This change means that Calgary expats and digital nomads can still get their hands on those much-loved toys, but now through a different retail partner.

This shift comes as a result of a partnership with Staples Canada and Next Century Ipco Can ULC. The new concept, which includes a digital shopping experience on the Staples website, aims to breathe new life into the brand. Additionally, the introduction of Parties 'R' Us, a new concept store for party supplies, is an exciting development for families looking for party essentials.

For those who may have old Toys 'R' Us gift cards, the retailer has honoured them until February 16, 2026, but it remains to be seen if these cards will be accepted at the new locations. Calgary residents and visitors should keep an eye out for these changes, as the new Toys 'R' Us areas within Staples stores might offer a convenient shopping experience for all ages.
