Why is an Ice Coffee/Latte 29, but hot is 39-49?

I'm a regular at IKEA in Bangkok and have noticed that their iced coffee and latte are priced at 29 baht, while the hot versions are 39-49 baht. I've tried to figure out why, but I'm still stumped. Can anyone help me understand the pricing difference?

There could be several legitimate reasons for the price difference. One possible explanation is that the cups used for iced drinks are more expensive, and the actual drink itself might also be more costly. For instance, when you order an iced drink, you might notice that the cup is filled with a lot of ice, which takes up a significant amount of space. However, if you order a hot drink without ice, the cup would have to be much smaller to hold the same amount of liquid, making the drink more expensive overall.

It's likely that the absence of ice in a drink means there's more product in the cup. This is probably due to the fact that ice takes up space, and when it's not present, the drink has to be served in a smaller cup to maintain the same volume.

I'm not convinced that's the case. Americano is simply a combination of espresso and water. If the cost of a hot Americano is 39 baht, while an iced Americano is 19 baht, it's unlikely that the difference is solely due to the cost of ice and water. The price difference suggests that there might be additional factors at play, such as the cost of coffee or other ingredients.

It's possible that the difference in price is due to more than just the cost of water. If the taste of the drink were to be affected solely by the addition of water, it's unlikely that the price would be significantly higher for the hot version. This suggests that there might be additional coffee or other ingredients that contribute to the higher cost of the hot drink.

The iced latte is not actually cheaper. For IKEA family members, it's currently priced at 29 baht, which is a promotional offer aimed at increasing the number of family members. Without a family card, the price of the iced latte will be the same as the hot version.

This is likely a marketing strategy. If 95% of customers order iced coffee and only 5% order hot coffee, the promotion makes the iced coffee seem like a great deal, even if the customer wouldn't have ordered the hot coffee otherwise. Additionally, customers can enjoy their iced coffee immediately, which might encourage them to leave the cafe sooner, freeing up space for other customers.
