Heavy trash pickup in Houston: schedule or designated days?
Services 7 answers • Jared Norwood
I've been trying to get rid of some heavy trash, but the solid waste management website calendar says it's every other month, but I put a mattress out on the curb and it's been several days. I've also seen internet searches saying you need to schedule it, but their website still designates heavy trash pickup days. Which is it?

Houston's bi-monthly trash pickup remains unchanged. To ensure your mattress is collected, place it in the designated area according to the specified guidelines.

The city reportedly announced a change to the heavy trash pickup schedule, but then walked it back because it would be inefficient.

You can use the HTX Collects app to find out when your heavy trash pickup is scheduled. Be sure to distinguish between junk waste and yard/tree waste, as collection days may vary.

It's still on a schedule, likely they're just behind. This has been normal for several years.

The HTX Collects app calendar for my address only lists trash and recycling, and no pickup has happened in my neighborhood for two months. It feels like they abandoned us and didn't tell us.

I put out my tree waste on the day before my scheduled pickup, but it was collected this week on a day that doesn't normally service my area. It appears the collection crew is running behind schedule.

This experience is eerily familiar. My tree waste sat for weeks, and the prolonged presence of the waste ultimately killed the grass in my yard.
