Halifax Q&A

I'm a videographer trying to upload extremely large files for a client, but my internet is not the fastest. It's taking 48 hours to upload, and the upload failed twice close to the end. I'm looking for incredibly fast WiFi or Ethernet to get it over with, and I don't mind sitting somewhere for a few hours if it saves my clients days. The files are 200+GB, and I'm plugged in through Ethernet.

I'm at the emergency room and I've noticed that some people are getting screened with a wand and having their bags checked, while others are being let through without being screened. I've noticed a pattern where people of different backgrounds are being treated differently, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

My child just got her learner's license, and I'm looking for recommendations for places around Dartmouth to take my child to practice driving. I'm hoping to find some quiet, less-busy streets where she can get comfortable behind the wheel, as well as relatively empty parking lots where she can practice things like turning, parking, reversing, etc.

My partner wants to start using an e-bike for grocery shopping and errands, but we're not sure about the local rules and etiquette.

I was at the Walmart in Bayers Lake with a cart full of groceries, not paying attention and ended up falling on top of it, spilling everything. Two employees from the parking lot came to help me pick everything up, even though they got their hands covered in raw egg. I'm grateful for their kindness and want to give them a shoutout to management, but I'm not sure who to contact or how to do it.

I'm a contract worker looking for a new line of work to fill the gaps between contracts. I've considered getting certification for bartending and getting into temp work for that sort of thing.

My kids are getting older and I want to learn how to make their clothes. I've heard that Patch is a good place to learn, but I'd love some local input.

I'm looking for a hair stylist or salon in the Halifax area that explicitly doesn't request tips. I've noticed that with prices going up, tipping on top is becoming unaffordable for me and I'd rather pay a fixed price for the service.

We have two large dogs that bark at first, but then go lay on the couch. But the barking can still be annoying/intimidating. Wondering if anyone has recommendations?

I'm heading out of the city and want to bring some donair sauce back home, but I'm worried about getting past security.

I'm used to having 20-30 fruit flies around this time of year, but in the span of a few days we have hundreds, and they won't go anywhere near my apple cider vinegar traps that always work. They hang out on the ceiling until the sun comes up, then they come down. They seem a bit bigger and darker in colour than the usual little reddish ones.

I've been searching for a remote, cozy log cabin with a fireplace or wood stove, and I'm having trouble finding one. I've looked on Cottages Canada, Airbnb, and other websites, but nothing seems to fit my criteria.

I've been thinking of using Communauto a few times a week instead of taking the bus, but I've heard mixed things about it. I'm wondering if it's worth it for frequent use.

I'm traveling to Halifax next week with my kids and I'd like to know if there are any indoor play places where they can burn off some energy.

I love winter in Halifax, but I'm worried about an El Nino bringing less snow and warmer temperatures. I've heard conflicting answers, and I just want to know what to expect this holiday season.

I'm thinking about signing up for the Hypo Half in Halifax, but registration is pricey and I want to make sure it's a well-organized race before I do so.

A friend and I were talking about feminism and feeling hopeless about how much there is to be frustrated about. We had an idea to pick one concrete thing and actually try to move the needle on it, like a law that needs changing or a policy that deserves more attention. Maybe there's a petition, letter-writing campaign, advocacy effort, or something else that could be tackled by regular people with jobs and responsibilities. If you have knowledge about Canadian law/policy, advocacy, or know of a group in Halifax that could use more support, please share.

I was finishing my ride along St. Margaret's Bay Road and had three occurrences of cars slowing down next to me and yelling at me. I couldn't believe that was the thing that motivated multiple drivers to harass cyclists.

I'm planning to watch a movie at Cineplex Park Lane, but I'm not sure if I can buy popcorn to take out without buying a ticket first. I've heard mixed reviews about this.

I'm looking for a reliable tax preparer or accountant in Halifax who specializes in cross-border US taxes. I've heard mixed reviews about some firms, so I'd appreciate any recommendations.
