I'm planning to hike Iztaccihuatl in December, I've been there before but it was in the summer, and I'm wondering if it will be snowy this time.

Snow on the mountain is typically found during the cold winter months. In my experience, the snow is usually more consistent at higher elevations, but it's not uncommon to see snow at lower elevations as well. I've never had to go all the way to the refugio to find snow, but I have seen it at the portillos near the mountain.

It's worth noting that the snow on Iztaccihuatl is now exclusively seasonal due to climate change. The permanent glaciers that used to exist on the mountain were declared extinct around 2018. However, the mountain still experiences snow during the winter months, typically between December and February, when cold fronts sweep through. It's also possible to see snow during the rainy season, but it usually disappears quickly during the summer months.
